Look what arrived!
about 8 years ago – Thu, Oct 06, 2016 at 11:31:40 PM

Yes, I was able to drive down to Blaine and pick it up on Monday morning. Looks exactly the same as when I shipped it... a little cleaner actually! Hope to hell they actually did something to it!

Anyway, I am going to put it in today, then the tech will come over and collimate it. Sometime next week. It is Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend, so nothing moves from Friday to Monday.

I'll let you know when it happens.

Oh, and for those asking... here are the pictures of the bags.

Sorry for the double post, but apparently a lot of people did not receive the first image, so I am sending it again here:

Laser Tube replacement
over 8 years ago – Tue, Sep 06, 2016 at 11:21:34 PM

So just back to work after the labour day weekend, and a short holiday with my wife.

Looks like everybody is getting antsy again. I will not address the individual comments about how it could be done cheaper or faster with Chinese lasers or plastics moulding. I already looked into this months back and even posted a failed attempt by a guy who was trying to sell me a brand new Chinese laser, and it wasn't able to do the resolution required for the job. Regardless of the cheap water cooled tubes, they simply aren't up to the switching speeds.

So here is a timeline of what has been happening.

July 6: Contacted Epilogue to receive a pdf for instructions for the removal and an RMA for shipping.

July 11: After removing the tube (pictures posted) I queried epilogue because I was concerned with shipping the entire thing with the lens. They responded to leave it all intact and ship as is.

July 16-17: That weekend I packaged the whole thing up into a cardboard box, with plywood sheets layered on the inside and styrofoam peanuts. The tube alone weighs in at 34.5 lbs. Packaged it was 46 lbs!

July 23: The following Friday I drove it down to Blaine, WA to ship it UPS to Vermont because to ship it out of Canada was ridiculous!

July 29: I was informed by UPS that the tube had arrived.

Epilogue had in formed me that it would 3 - 5 weeks to do the repair. I have called, and it should be shipping this week. Again, by UPS ground so I will let you all know AS SOON as it gets here.

I thank you again for your continued patience.

Laser Tube Teardown
over 8 years ago – Sun, Jul 10, 2016 at 07:58:03 PM

Okay, NOTHING like the instructions... no 'orange cable'... but I figured it out... here's the pics:

Cooling fan cover removed. There's the beast.

 Then the elusive orange cable!

Nothing... nada... no orange!
Nothing... nada... no orange!

Okay, so I got it out.

Sucker is big, right? Must be 25-30 lbs!
Sucker is big, right? Must be 25-30 lbs!

Seriously, though... there are no instructions after "so, now it should just lift off." (okay, I'm paraphrasing a little, but there is no info after that, just "To install new laser tube, simply reverse steps 8 back down to 1.)

Do I send this entire assembly? Nothing here looks like a tube. Not even close. And what about that thing sticking up on the left. Know what that is? I do, that's the primary lens. Seams a bit careless to ship the thing with the lens sticking up like that.

I was thinking a 'tube' in a cardboard box with some packing peanuts. This is going to need something a wee bit more substantial that that.

I am going to email them a snap of the 'tube' and see what they say about transporting. I would actually feel safer building a wooden crate for it... and some styrofoam or a couple of old pillows from around the house.

Either way, this thing is out and on it's way. Will keep you informed.

Cheers... back to the family on this sunny Sunday.

This is what I'm doing this weekend!

Funds were received last week. I have an RMA number from Epilogue and will be shipping out the laser tube Monday... I'll post photos of the removal job this weekend.

I'm getting pretty good at tearing this thing apart, albeit, I haven't been behind the exhaust fans before, just vacuumed them out a couple of times, so it will be interesting.

No picture for what I will find behind the fans... but I guess I will figure it out!

Stick around for the pics! Up this weekend.
